BetterReply (referred to as "the Extension", "we", "us", or "our") is a browser extension designed to help users on social platforms such as Reddit. It uses AI to translate and polish user input from their native language into a natural, fluent English reply. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Extension.
We follow the principle of minimal data collection and only collect information necessary to provide our service.
We do not collect any personally identifiable information, including but not limited to your name, email address, IP address, geolocation, browsing history, or social media profile information.
To continuously improve the stability and user experience of the Extension, we may use analytics tools such as Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymous usage statistics, for example:

The core function of the Extension is to take your native language input from a text box and translate/polish it into an English reply. Your input content is processed through a third‑party AI service (see Section 4). After processing, the resulting content is not stored on any of our servers. Temporary data related to each translation request is cleared immediately after completion.
To provide contextually accurate reply suggestions, the Extension needs to read the content of the current page (i.e., the Reddit post or comment). This content is processed only locally in your browser to provide context for the AI. It is not collected or stored on any external server.
To ensure the Extension works properly, we require the following permissions. Each permission corresponds to a specific function:

We do not request any permissions beyond what is necessary for the functionality, nor do we access or collect your data outside the scope of these permissions.
The Extension uses a third‑party AI service API (e.g., OpenAI API or other compatible LLM APIs) to process your translation and polishing requests. When you use the core feature of the Extension, the following information is sent to the third‑party AI service:
The third‑party AI service provider receives only the text necessary to fulfill the translation request and processes that data in accordance with its own privacy policy. When selecting an AI service provider, we prioritize those whose data processing complies with industry privacy standards. The third‑party AI service provider may retain your input data according to its terms of service, and such data may be used for service improvement or model training. However, we do not process your data for that purpose, nor do we share any personally identifiable information with the third‑party AI service provider.
The Extension does not include any dedicated servers operated by us for user data storage. All data processing occurs directly between your browser and the third‑party AI service.
The Extension may contain links to other websites (e.g., Reddit’s official site). The privacy policies of those websites are independent of this policy. We recommend that you review their respective privacy policies when you visit them.
All communications with the third‑party AI service are encrypted via HTTPS/TLS, ensuring that data cannot be intercepted or tampered with during transmission.
User preferences are stored locally on your device via Chrome’s storage API. We do not upload this information to any server.
We do not sell, rent, trade, or transfer any of your data to any third party.
We may disclose your information only if: (1) required by law, regulation, or court order; or (2) necessary to protect our legal rights or respond to legal proceedings.
Because we only collect locally stored preferences and anonymous usage analytics, you can manage or delete your data in the following ways:

The Extension is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with information, please contact us using the information in Section 14, and we will take steps to delete such data.
We do not retain your input content or reply content. All text is used only to fulfill the current translation request and is not stored after processing. Anonymous usage statistics (e.g., extension launch counts) will be retained in accordance with the data retention policy of the analytics provider.
The third‑party AI service provider (e.g., OpenAI) used by the Extension may have servers located outside your country or region. When you use the Extension, your data may be transferred to and stored in jurisdictions where those providers operate.
